PSAC-UPCE in a Legal Strike Position

Posted on November 7th, 2008 by David Rennie

The UPCE (Union of Postal Communications Employees) bargaining unit, affilliated to the Public Service Alliance Bargianing Unit is now in a legal strike position with Canada Post Corporation. The bargaining team has sent notice that Canada Post’s continued heel dragging and its refusal to compromise has brouht them to the brink of a strike.
They claim Managment is still trying to impose its proposal for a new Short-term Diablity System a- proposal that almost 9 out of 10 member clearly rejected. Canada Post is also sticking to a meagre wage offer of 2.25% per year for each year for a four-year contract. UPCE Bargainers maintain that their proposal of 3% per year for a three-year contract is in line wiith other settlements that Canada Post has recently negotitaited with their other unions.
For now the negotiations are done - the bargainging team is ready to return to the table at any time if Canada Post decides they are read to engage in meaningful bargaining they claim.
