Hamilton Out on Strike
Canadian Union of Postal Workers National President, Denis Lemelin, announced in a press conference today in Ottawa that the Hamilton Local was the next city to go out on strike at 11:45 pm, Friday, June 3, 2011, at the Hamilton Mail Processing Plant (HMPP), 393 Millen Road in Stoney Creek. Picketing will continue through the weekend ending at midnight on Sunday, June 5, 2011, at the HMPP. Hamilton is the second city to go on strike in a series of rotating strike announced by the Union. Winnipeg was the first city to strike on Friday June 3, 2011. Hopefully this strike action will force Canada Post to continue to negotiate so the parties can reach a settlement. Picket Captains from across the Local will be supporting the lines in solidarity. Members from other Locals and Unions will also be supporting our lines. All members from across the Local are invited to join the picket lines over the weekend.
