About the Local

Who we are

We are approximately 1600 postal workers in Local 548 Hamilton.

We are united in a struggle to improve our wages, benefits, health and safety and working conditions. Our National Union has been traditionally known as a militant, democratic, rank and file driven union.

Historically, we are the amalgamation of the old CUPW inside workers, the Letter Carriers Union of Canada, and smaller numbers of members from several other unions and bargaining units, which democratically voted to unite under the name of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. We now have members from smaller private sector bargain units not employed by the post office, cleaners in postal facilities, and Rural Route members.

In the local we have 4 bargaining units: along with the traditional urban operations, rural route CUPW members, cleaners employed in the plant at HMPP by Omni Cleaning Services, and Secure Distribution Services for the CUS (combined urban services) drivers in Oakville.
