Help Save Canada Post!

HomeResources | Save Canada Post

Canada Post and the Conservatives are taking an axe to long-treasured postal services - killing good jobs, eliminating door to door delivery, closing post offices and drastically increasing postage rates.

You and your organization can help. Here are a few resources to help make it easy for you to contact your local MP; Lisa Raitt; and add your name to those who support this essential service.

2014.07.01 - Canada Day

Happy Canada Day July 1, 2014

In response to CPC’s announcement that Hamilton Mountain Depot was to be converted to CMB delivery, the Hamilton Local Fight Back Campaign took action. Members of the Local Executive and activists participated in a Canada Day picnic hosted by Hamilton Mountain NDP MP Chris Charlton. During this well attended picnic, petitions opposing CPC’s cuts were signed, the Local’s FACT vs. FICTION booklet was handed out along with buttons, decals, tear away postcards, and the “save door to door “ lawn signs.

The public expressed unanimous support for CUPW’s “save door to door” campaign. Individuals expressed concerns along several recurring themes: Ability of the disabled and elderly to access CMBs; personal security; security of the mail; and issues with parcel delivery among them. Appropriately enough this Canada Day picnic served to highlight the concerns of the public regarding the preservation of public services.

The Local would like to express its appreciation to the Hamilton & District Labour Council for sharing their tent and tables with us.

A big thank you to Chris Charlton for her outspoken support of CUPW, and for her efforts in bringing attention in Ottawa to the issues associated with the conversion to CMBs. And thank you to all members who helped make this event a great success-great job!!
