Help Save Canada Post!

HomeResources | Save Canada Post

Canada Post and the Conservatives are taking an axe to long-treasured postal services - killing good jobs, eliminating door to door delivery, closing post offices and drastically increasing postage rates.

You and your organization can help. Here are a few resources to help make it easy for you to contact your local MP; Lisa Raitt; and add your name to those who support this essential service.

2014.09.04 - Hamilton City Council Presentation

Acting President Terry Langley’s Hamilton City Hall Presentation

September 4, 2014

On Thursday September 4, 2014, Hamilton Local 548 Acting President Terry Langley gave a compelling presentation to the Hamilton City Council regarding Canada Post’s plans to cease home delivery. The main focus of Terry’s presentation was to ask Hamilton City Council to use all legal power within its grasp to prohibit Canada Post using municipal property to place CMBs - thus effectively stymieing Canada Post’s plan to move forward with the conversion to CMBs. Terry’s presentation was extremely well received, and on September 23, 2014 a motion authored by three City Councillors with the intent of creating legal obstacles to municipal land usage by Canada Post will be heard. CHCH TV, CBC Hamilton, and CHML radio broadcast clips of Terry’s presentation. The Hamilton Spectator also carried an article on this issue. This was a great success, and has helped raise national awareness on the “Fight Back” strategies surrounding Canada Post’s ill conceived plans. Many thanks for the support we have received from other unions, citizens, City Councilors, MPs, MPPs, and their staffs. And thank you to the Local 548 Fight Back Committee.
