Help Save Canada Post!

HomeResources | Save Canada Post

Canada Post and the Conservatives are taking an axe to long-treasured postal services - killing good jobs, eliminating door to door delivery, closing post offices and drastically increasing postage rates.

You and your organization can help. Here are a few resources to help make it easy for you to contact your local MP; Lisa Raitt; and add your name to those who support this essential service.

2015.02.27 - The Fight Back Door to Door Campaign

The Fight Back Door to Door Campaign

February 2015

Acting President Terry Langley and members of the Executive have had a busy February engaging in the Fight Back Save Door to Door campaign.

On February 4, Terry Langley spoke to Council at Hamilton City Hall. Terry’s message to the City Council provided the councilors with information that they then used when questioning the representatives from Canada Post, who also attended this meeting. When the CPC representatives were asked pointed questions by the councilors, Canada Post gave evasive and misleading answers, as is their norm.

Terry, Anibal, Tracey, and Sophie attended a meeting with the CURC (Congress of Union Retirees of Canada) executive on Feb. 11, 2015.  We provided informational handouts, and Terry made several important points about the Save Door to Door campaign. CURC is an important ally in our Fight Back campaign, as CURC has a far reaching network of affiliates. CURC Executives also gave us useful suggestions to further our campaign.

A town hall meeting was held at Sackville Hill Seniors’ Centre on Feb. 18, 2015 at 6:30 P.M., Terry Langley and Sophie Kruk attended, as well as other CUPW members. City councilors and representatives of the Federal MPs were also in attendance. Over 200 concerned citizens were packed into the room. Terry was asked to speak, and he informed the attendees of the truth of what Canada Post was proposing. City councilors and the MPs are 100% committed to fight the installation of CMBs in Hamilton. Not only has City Council passed a resolution opposing the conversion to CMBs - the City of Hamilton is using all legal means possible to make it as difficult as possible for Canada Post to install the CMBs. The City will require CPC to apply for a permit for every single CMB, and if Canada Post refuses, Plan B for the City of Hamilton is to seek a court injunction to stop CPC from installing the CMBs. This is a first, and other municipalities would do well to follow suit.

Support for Save Door to Door is growing - we need to stop Harper before all our publicly owned institutions fall victim to Harper’s privatization agenda.
