CANADIAN UNION OF POSTAL WORKERS

Members of the Local Fight Back Committee, some Members of the Local Executive, Local Activists, and members of the Oakville and District Labour Council staged a protest if front of Conservative MP Terence Young’s Oakville Constituency office on October 17, 2014. In a display of cowardly behavior, approximately 2 minutes after he saw the protesters, Mr. Young left his office, got into his vehicle and drove away. What is Mr. Young afraid of - that he has to answer questions about why he stood up in the House of Commons and clapped when it was announced that Canada Post was ceasing door to door delivery, and that 6000-8000 Canadians would be losing well paying jobs due to these cuts? Or is it perhaps that he has no answers when asked if Canadians have been consulted on the changes Canada Post is making. Maybe Mr. Young does not want to answer why the Postal Banking study which said Postal Banking was a “win-win” for Canada Post and Canadians has been discarded by the Conservative Government. Could it be that Mr. Young does not want to answer questions about Stephen Harper’s secret study on the privatization of Canada Post? Or maybe Mr. Young does not want to face the truth-the truth that Canada Post does not need to make these cuts. The truth that Canadians deserve better than needless cuts to service and massive increases in postal rates!

Actions speak louder than words Mr. Young.
